Motorcycle trackday insurance — full comparison

Your road insurance doesn't cover the track. Here are the policies, average prices and what they really cover in 2026.

⚠️ Important

Motorcycle road liability insurance EXCLUDES competition or learning events on track without exception. A circuit crash without track insurance = the bike bill is yours (often €2,000 to €8,000 in damage).

Why insure for the track?

Road policy exclusion

All standard motorcycle policies (MACIF, AMV, April, GMF...) contain a circuit exclusion clause. Re-read your contract — the clause is always there.

Trackday is still a risky hobby

Statistically, 3 to 7 % of riders crash on a day. High speed + cold track + judgment error = near-certain damage without insurance.

Average crash cost

Fairing €600, seat €400, exhaust €1,200, fork €1,800, tank €900... A small slide in a corner quickly costs €3,000 in parts + labour.

Types of cover available

Daily bike damage insurance

€70 – €180/day

Covers material damage to your own bike in case of a crash. The most common policy for occasional riders.

Annual bike damage insurance (track policy)

€400 – €900/year

For regular riders (5+ days/year). More cost-effective than day-by-day cover.

Excess buyback

€50 – €120/day

Your road policy partially covers but with a high excess (€1,500 to €3,000). The excess buyback reduces or removes it for the circuit.

Track third-party liability

Often included

Covers damage you cause to another rider (rare but possible in a collision). Often included by the organiser.

Cancellation / weather insurance

€5 – €25

Refund of the spot if you can't attend (injury, illness, weather). Subscribed at booking.

Repatriation assistance

€30 – €80/event

Bring the bike and rider home from abroad after an accident. Essential for trips to Aragón, Mugello, etc.

How to choose the right policy

Occasional rider (1–3 days/year)

Daily policy. Subscribe as an option at booking with the organiser, or via Lestienne / Pacifica directly.

Regular rider (5–15 days/year)

Annual track policy. More cost-effective from the 6th day. April Moto or Lestienne in annual policy.

Competition / cup rider

Dedicated competition policy (FSBK, brand cup). No public-market insurance, go through your club or broker.

Bike rented for the day

Trackside bike rental usually includes material damage insurance. Check the excess (often €1,500 to €3,000).

Insurance questions

Does my road motorcycle policy cover the track, even for a single day?

No, never. The circuit exclusion clause is in 100 % of standard policies in France (MACIF, AMV, April road, GMF, etc.). Confirmed by the French Motorcycle Federation and case law.

What happens if I crash without track insurance?

Damage to your bike is 100 % yours. Medical fees are covered by social security + your standard mutual insurance. If you damage circuit installations, you're liable too.

Can I subscribe insurance on the day itself?

Yes, most organisers offer a « bike damage » option at booking. Otherwise, Lestienne and April Moto accept subscriptions until the day before the event (with 48h quote).

Does insurance cover track tyres?

No, never. Tyre wear and degradation are systematically excluded (standard track riding consumable).

What's the difference between track liability and bike damage?

Track liability = covers damage YOU cause to others. Bike damage = covers damage to YOUR own bike. These two covers are complementary.

Do insurances cover foreign circuits?

Most do, but with a surcharge. Inform your insurer before your trip to Aragón, Mugello, Valencia. Always add the international repatriation option (€30–80).

Need a personalised quote?

Compare several insurers before subscribing. Rates vary by bike, age and profile.
